What makes Banana Sport Optics different from the competition?
We engineer our products using math and technology to give you the highest performing gear possible.
Most competitors take a shortcut: they buy original replacement nosepads and simply glue an RX lens onto them, which can cause the lens to fall out. We take a more precise approach. A dedicated product designer and engineer custom designs our nosepad from scratch, accounting for G-forces and other extreme conditions encountered during sport. The result is a product refined through multiple iterations of real-world testing.
On the lens side, most competitors only offer Polycarbonate lenses, which have a low Abbe value and are noticeably less optically clear. We offer a broad selection of lens materials including Trivex, which delivers outstanding clarity and is our top recommendation for most athletes.
Will it work with my strong prescription?
Not sure if your prescription will work? Just contact us at contact@bananaoptics.com or use the chat on our website. We have lens calculation software that lets us check whether your prescription is achievable, we have more lenses available than what is shown in the shop, and we can also custom make lenses. In most cases we will find a solution for you.
Do you have a lens material recommendation for women or anyone sensitive to weight?
Yes. Many female customers, and many customers with a lower tolerance for pressure on the nose, are more sensitive to lens weight. In that case we recommend choosing Trivex whenever your prescription allows it. Trivex is the lightest standard lens material we offer, and it is also an excellent sport lens material because it combines low weight, good optical clarity, and strong impact resistance.
We can also make custom lenses for special cases. These can be even lighter because they are made specifically for your order, so the lens can be cut as slim and lightweight as possible instead of using a more generic lens blank.
Can you do extra precise lens alignment for higher prescriptions?
Yes. For higher prescriptions, we can add an extra precision step. You take multiple selfies with and without the sunglasses, and we overlay the images to calculate the horizontal and vertical lens alignment more precisely.
This is especially useful when the prescription is stronger, when the frame is very curved, or when small alignment differences would be more noticeable.
Which Oakley shield sunglasses are best if I am picky about fit, airflow, or comfort?
If you want one of the cool Oakley shield lens sunglasses but you are picky about comfort, I recommend the regular size Oakley Sutro or Oakley Sutro Lite. They give the most space between the outer shield lens and the face.
That extra space matters. It improves airflow on the inside, helps reduce fogging and heat buildup, and gives more clearance so nothing touches your face or eyelashes as easily.
Do you accept HSA or FSA payments?
Many of our customers successfully claim refunds through their HSA or FSA. While we cannot accept HSA/FSA payments directly, we can provide you with the proper paperwork to submit a reimbursement request to your insurer. Many of our US clients are eligible for international purchase refunds, so we recommend checking with your insurer to confirm your eligibility.
